 ‘알레포 코덱스(Aleppo Codex, 알레포 사본)’ 또는 간단하게 ‘왕관(Keter, 케테르(קתר))’이라고 불리는 원전인 이 필사본은 완벽에 가까울 정도로 보존이 잘된 최고(最古)의 히브리어 성경(구약)이다. 이 책은 옛날부터 지금에 이르기까지 다수의 학자들로부터 가장 정확하고 권위 있는 히브리어 성경으로 인정받고 있다. 동시에 성경의 본문 구절, 캔틸레이션(cantillation, 유대교에서 히브리어 성경 본문을 낭창할 때의 운율) 및 발성(發聲)에 대한 원천 문헌으로 여겨진다.
